EASTER EGG HUNT

April 15, 2017
11:00 am at Poolside Park

(If inclement weather - event will be held at City Hall)

For ages 3rd grade and younger - Bring your own Easter Baskets!

Always a springtime favorite, the annual Underwood Easter Egg Hunt is fun for kids and adults alike.  Where the Easter Egg Hunt is held is dependent, like all North Dakota spring events, on the weather. If the weather cooperates, the hunt is held at the Underwood City Park or Poolside Park. If it doesn't, the hunt is held inside at City Hall.

Sponsored by the Underwood Civic Club.

Make plans to join us at the McLean County Fair!!

McLean County Fair   June 16-17-18, 2017

History
The Underwood fairgrounds lie deep in the tradition of Underwood and McLean County. Begun in 1905, the Underwood Fair Association established fairgrounds and hosted a fair every year until 1914. When the fair discontinued, an event called the County Play Day filled the void. Each spring schools from around the county would come to Underwood to participate in thespian contests. County Play Day was held annually for over 25 years, but ceased during World War II.

The modern era of the fair started in 1957 when the McLean County Fair was started. All of the towns in the county were given an opportunity to submit offers to host the fair. Underwood offered the land and a steel building that had previously been used at the Garrison Dam and was chosen for the site of the McLean County Fair because of its central location in the county. In 1958 the McLean County 4-H Council voted to move ahead with plans for a 4-H livestock barn at the fairgrounds, and in the 1960's the fair board constructed the racetrack with help from the county.

Fairgrounds Today
Today the McLean County Fair stresses 4-H and FFA achievements. Operating on a small budget each summer the fair board tries to provide "good clean fun" for the people of the county. The midway consists of a carnival, 4-H achievements, music, free beef barbecue, and car races along with judging in the home economics, livestock, school handicrafts, and 4-H projects.

In the off-season the fairgrounds are available as RV and campsites for visitors taking advantage of the area's many outdoor recreational opportunities, including hunting, fishing, canoeing, boating, and bird watching.

For more information on the McLean County Fairgrounds, call the Underwood City Hall at 701-442-5481.
