The Underwood Civic Club is an organization of volunteers whose purpose is "to provide the younger business and professional men and women of Underwood a medium for training in citizenship and association of commerce work, to promote the civic, industrial and educational activities of the City of Underwood, to secure and disseminate accurate information relating thereto, to oppose legislation unfavorable thereto, and to support and promote legislation favorable thereto." Primarily a service organization, the Underwood Civic Club hosts the following annual events:

 Go Loco for Local Campaign

Did you know that dollars spent locally stay in the community up to three times more than those spent elsewhere? In addition, dollars you spend locally support vital public services, like our fire department, our city employees, our parks department, our roads and streets, and our water and sewer. Your purchases help our town attract new entrepreneurs and skilled workers. Towns that preserve their one-of-a-kind businesses and distinctive features have more success recruiting new businesses and residents.

Just think of the things that we enjoy living in a small town . . . riding our bikes or walking to the store, having our friends and neighbors as the storekeepers, and knowing that we can count on each other when times are tough.

You can count on us. Here’s to counting on you too.

Other activities of the Underwood Civic Club include sponsorship of the Citywide Rummage Sales, a Customer Appreciation Pancake and Sausage Supper, Mid-Summer Classic Car Show, and participation in the McLean County Fair.

Northern Expressions Arts Council

The Northern Expressions Arts Council was formed in November 2011 by residents of Underwood interested in restoring the Rose Theater.  The Rose Theater is a Quonset-hut style movie theater constructed in Underwood in 1949.  It is the only theater of this style in North Dakota and one of only sixteen remaining in the nation.  The first phase of the restoration projection – sealing the roof- was completed  in Fall 2012.  The Northern Expressions Arts Council is launched its membership campaign in Fall 2012.

Underwood Senior Citizens Club

The Underwood Senior Citizen's Club was organized in May 1974 and is currently housed in the former Underwood City Office building on Lincoln Avenue. Programs include Meals-on-Wheels, which serves meals to the elderly and disabled in McLean and Mercer Counties, and bus service for the elderly through the West River Transportation Council. The bus service is used for the Meals-on-Wheels program as well as for local trips and day-trips to Bismarck for medical and other appointments. The center is open six days a week until 4:00 pm. Seniors enjoy visiting, playing cards, pool, puzzles, piano, and organ music. Scheduled monthly events include a card party on the first Saturday and a birthday party the second Saturday of the month.

The facility may be rented out for birthday parties, anniversary parties and meetings. The annual fundraiser is a pancake and sausage breakfast and a pie social in the fall.
